This scrapbook contains articles and pictures of Fort McAllister which is located in Bryan County, Georgia. The fort was designed by Captain John M. McCrady. It was constructed between 1861-1862 at Genesis Point on the south bank of the Great Ogeechee River. According to Kenneth K. Krakow in Georgia Place Names, the fort was "the southern anchor in a chain of Confederate defenses to prevent attack by the sea." Union attacks during 1862-1864 were defeated. The fort was finally captured on December 13, 1864. The fort's name came from the nearby McAllister plantation.
